Gillian's hair

Every morning I fight with Gillian. She hates getting her hair brushed.  Well, that's a little dramatic, she doesn't hate it. She just doesn't like to stay still while I am brushing her hair. This morning I decided to do something different with her hair. It was something I saw on Pinterest and I thought it would look cute on Gillian. Before I could start on Gillian's hair, I needed to brush Donald Duck's hair (Gillian was planning on bringing Donald to school today).  Next I started on Gillian. I did the first two ponytails and then Gillian wanted to get up. I had to hold her still while I did the other two ponytails. The whole time Gillian was saying "I don't like it. Stop!"  Finally her hair was done. And she looked so cute. But she said "I don't like it. I gonna take it out."  Thankfully Daddy quickly distracted her and asked her to get her sneakers. By the time her sneakers were on, she had forgotten about taking out her hair.

I was surprised to see that her hair was still in the ponytails after school. When we asked her if everyone liked her hair, she said "Everybody hate it!" Fabulous, she is three. She is going to be delightful in her teenage years.

Oh John

Today we were running errands with the kids.  In the car, I told the kids that they needed to behave at while we were shopping or there would be no shows when we got home.  John said "Well I mostly cleaned the basement."  When he said "mostly" he put his hands in the air and wiggled his fingers.  I really didn't think much of it.  But later tonight, he said something very similar and again raised his hands and wiggled his fingers.  Daddy and I realized that John was doing air quotes.  The best part is that he was actually using them appropriately.

John doing air quotes
After dinner tonight, John read Daddy a few books (we read every night).  When John was done, Daddy asked him "Do you want to take shower now or later."  John said "Let's do it now.  I want to be efficient!"

Gillian well visit

Gillian had her annual checkup scheduled for yesterday.  Yesterday morning, Gillian and I waited with John at the bus stop.  She cried when he got on the bus, "Where they taking my Johnny?"  I explained to her that he was going to school and we would see him later.  She didn't understand.  But we got in the car and headed to the doctor's office.  In the car, I explained to her that we were going to see the doctor and that she would need to listen to the doctor.  Gillian said "But I not sick!"

We were the first appointment of the day.  Gillian still was a little nervous about seeing the doctor.  But luckily the nurse was super sweet and set the tone for the appointment.  She asked Gillian to get on the scale.  Gillian stood really still to get weighed and measured.  Gillian is 39 inches tall.  She grew 4 inches in a year!  After the scale, Gillian had her blood pressure taken.  She sat really still and giggled as the nurse put on the blood pressure cuff.  Next, the nurse asked me to get a urine sample.  I won't go into detail about this, but I will say it was hilarious.  We then went into the exam room and waited for Dr. Yee.  While we waited, Gillian again told me "But I not sick!"  I explained to her that we were just getting a check up.  Dr. Yee arrived and started the exam.  Gillian was great.  She listened to the doctor and did everything that was requested of her.

Finally it was time for the shots.  Gillian only needed two shots, but Dr. Yee called in the nurse.  "MaryAnn, I need some help in here.  She's feisty!"  I held Gillian, while MaryAnn held Gillian's hands, and Dr. Yee did the shots.  Dr. Yee is fast.  Gillian whimpered for a second and was done.  She immediately asked "I get lollipop?"  She actually got two lollipops for herself and somehow conned Dr. Yee into getting two lollipops for John too.

In the car on our way to school, I told Gillian, "I am so proud of you.  You were such a big, brave girl!"  She said "But her hurt my tushy and I got band-dids."  Kids never remember the good parts, only the shots that took all of 30 seconds and didn't even hurt her.

dirt & mulch

I got home tonight and I could hear the shower running.  I went upstairs and was surprised to see that John was in the shower (I had assumed that it was Gillian).  I asked Daddy what happened.  He said "Go look at John's clothes."  John's pants were disgusting.  They were covered in dirt.  I again asked Daddy what happened.  He said "We have a boy!"  John explained to us what happened at dinner tonight,  "I was digging in the dirt.  We were looking for rocks.  We wanted to build a tower.  And we were going to make the tower out of rocks and then cover it in sand."

When I saw Gillian tonight, she pulled a piece of mulch out of her pocket.  She grinned and handed it to me.  "I got this for you!"  Then she realized that Daddy was standing next to me, she said "For you and Daddy."  Daddy told me that when he picked Gillian up from school today she ran over to him and said "I found a rock for you and Mommy."  Daddy looked at the item in her open hand and said "It's not a rock, it's mulch."  Gillian paused, thought it over and said "I keep it!"

I love my little boy and my mulch hoarder.

driving

Daddy buckled Gillian into her car seat and got into the car.  When he sat down, Gillian said "Daddy, I want you to drive."  Daddy said "No.  I want you to drive."  Gillian said "I can't drive.  I too tiny!"  Daddy said "You can drive.  I will sit in the back.  You come up front and I'll sit in your seat."  Gillian said "You can't sit back here!  You can't fit."  Daddy said "I can fit in your seat.  I little."  Gillian said "You not tiny!  You big!"

Golf lessons

John started golf lessons three weeks ago. He goes every Tuesday. Poppy has been picking John up from school and taking him to the lessons.

After John's first week, he proudly told me "I got the highest score! No one else had a score that high!" We explained to him that in golf you want the lowest score possible. He wasn't too happy with that. The following week, he shaved a few strokes off the previous week. He was very excited.

Poppy and Mimi are away this week, so I picked up John and brought him to golf. We arrived at the golf place and John said "I don't think this is where we are supposed to be." Well he was right. I brought him to the wrong place. In the car, I told him that since we went to the wrong place first we may not make it in time. He said "I'm so sad. I am going to miss my favoritist funnist thing to do." We arrived just in time. The other kids had just finished hitting balls at the range and were getting paired up to go on the course. John joined up with another little boy and they hit the links with one of the coaches. The boys had so much fun and before I knew it they were done.

We have some homework. He needs to practice his swing along with his form. I think Daddy will help him with that.

Stupid

Stupid is a bad word in our house.  Anytime the kids say stupid they are sent to time out.  Tonight at dinner, Daddy was saying that he felt stupid.  Gillian looked at me and said "Daddy say stupid."  I said, "Yes he did.  Daddy, please don't say stupid."  Gillian wasn't happy with that response.  So she said to Daddy, "Daddy, stupid is not nice.  Mommy, Daddy said stupid.  Daddy, don't say stupid.  Mommy, I tell Daddy not to say stupid."

Wake up

This morning, John came into our bed and snuggled up next to me. He grabbed my arm and started rolling back and forth. I was ok with the snuggling, but not when he was basically tugging my arm. I kicked him out of the bed. But of course I couldn't fall back to sleep after that.

Around 8:30 this morning, Gillian was still upstairs. We thought she was sleeping. I went upstairs to check on her. She was wide awake and sitting on her bed. She saw me and said "Morning!"  I asked her why she didn't come find me. She said "I don't know. I no sleeping. The sun bother me." She picked up a baby, baby's blanket and pillow and asked me to pick her up. "I go see my Johnny!"

Both kids have their own agenda in the morning. John likes to wake everyone up and Gillian just wants to find her brother.

car conversations

I got to pick up the kids from school yesterday.  John and I had some interesting conversations in the car.

As we drove down Swimming River Road towards Lincroft to pick up Gillian, John said "Did we just past Swimming River?"  I said yes.  He said "Did you see if there was dirt in the water?  Cause you know what happens when there is dirt in the water."  I said, "No what happens when there is dirt in the water?"  He said "People get sick!  You can't drink dirty water!"  I said "John, there is a water treatment plant right next to the river and it treats the water and makes it so that people can drink it."  John said "Whew!"

Next we were driving behind a cement mixer.  I said to John, "Look in front of us, do you know what that is?"  He didn't know.  I said "It's a cement mixer."  He said "Oh no!  Are we behind it?  We gotta watch out, because we could get cemented.  The cement would just cemented us in place.  And then we would be stuck."

Dessert menu

Daddy asked the kids what they wanted for dessert tonight. John opted to have his leftover Italian ice from last night. Gillian said out of the side of her mouth "I want big cookies. I wanna dip 'em in milk." Daddy gave Gillian her cookies and milk and John, his Italian ice. John took one bite of his Italian ice and said "Daddy, you do such a good job taking care of us and you never get to take a break. You can have my Italian ice. Can I have cookies and milk?"

Pushing

I had the following conversation with Gillian today:
Me: How was your day?
Gillian: I push Julia.
Me: Pushing is not nice. Why did you push your friend?
Gillian: She had a baby. I want it.
Me: That's not nice. You need to share the toys.
Gillian: I push Julia off the seesaw.
Me: What?
Gillian: I push Julia off the seesaw. I go timeout.
Me: Why did you push Julia?
Gillian: Cause I couldn't see Nicholas.
Me: Gillian!?!? You pushed Julia twice?
Gillian: I go to timeout. I say sorry.

I know. Kids push. But I am more upset with the fact that she is so nonchalant about it.

My little baker

Gillian likes to pretend to bake cakes. Her cakes always have interesting ingredients. We went to the beach on Saturday and Gillian made us some cakes in the sand. As she put sand in her pan, she asked "You like chocolate?" The she would add some sand. "You like sprinkles?" She added chocolate chips and cake and icing. Then it was time for me to taste it. As she handed over the cake, she said "It's just 'tend. Don't eat it!" I "tried" the cake and told her it was delicious. She then started from scratch and made Aunt Betty a cake too. After Aunt Betty enjoyed her orange and pink cake. Gillian made Daddy a cake. "You like brownies?" She certainly knows her audience. Love that my little girl likes to bake.

Wake up call

John is an early riser. On school days he wakes up before his alarm. On the weekends he tends to be the first one up. This morning was no different. He came into our room and started to climb into our bed. Daddy told him "John, go downstairs, open the backdoor for Duncan and then you can go downstairs and watch two shows."  John made it to the hallway and he started whistling to get Duncan's attention. Even Duncan thought it was too early to be up and he didn't move. Daddy finally told John to stop. John said "But I can't get Duncan downstairs!" Daddy said "What did I tell you to do?" John yelled "Open the door for Duncan! Oh, ok." And he disappeared.

We really need to talk to him about being quiet in the morning and not waking up the entire house.

The Nurse

I got to pick up the kids from school on Friday.  I picked up Gillian first and we went together to pick up John.  It was my first time picking him up from MFA, but Gillian has already picked him up three times.  One of the teachers saw Gillian and said "Go get John."  John came running to us, while I showed the teacher my drivers license.  As we were walking out of the school, Gillian said to John, "You got a band-did.  Why you got a band-did?"  She is so observant, he had a band-aid on his shin.  I asked John "What happened?"  He said "It's a long story.  Can I tell you in the car?"  We got into the car and he tells us the story.  "I was outside playing on the climber.  I fell on the step.  I climbed on the rocky bridge, but my leg hurt.  So I went to my teacher.  She had another teacher take me to the nurse's office.  The nurse cleaned my cut and gave me a Band-Aid.  Then I went back to my class."  Not sure how that is a long story, but it sounds like he had a good first experience in the nurse's office.

Better than good

Every day during dinner, we ask John about his day.  All week he has been giving his day a double thumbs up.  Today, I asked John about his day.  He smiled, gave me two thumbs up and said "Booyakasha!"  He explained to me, "Booyakasha is better than good.  A Booyakasha with two thumbs up is better than anything!"  I asked him, "How was the pizza at school today?"  Again, he grinned at me.  But he said "Booyakasha, Booyakasha!" And gave me two thumbs up.  He explained "Booyakasha is better than good.  A Booyakasha with two thumbs up is better than anything.  Two Booyakashas and two thumbs up is better than that!"

Of course all I could think of was the commercial below...

Reading

John doesn't get a lot of homework in his class, but every night he needs to read before bed. He said "Mrs. Belena said 'Read then lights out!'" Daddy read with him tonight and last night too. Tonight, Daddy called me into John's room. He told me "John wants to read you the book too. John did a great job and wants to read it again." I say with John. He did an excellent job reading the book. He had so much confidence tonight.  I am so proud of how far he has come with his reading skills.

The One with the Rides

Today we went to Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant.  Gillian and I stopped and picked up Justin, while Daddy, Granddad and John drove right to Jenkinson's.  Daddy and I didn't plan ahead and look to see what time the rides open.  They open at noon and we arrived at 11:30.  So we stopped at Martell's and had some lunch.  Gillian was not happy about having to eat first.  We tried to tell her, "You need to have a full belly before they will let you on the rides."  She didn't believe us, but did sit and eat her lunch.

The first ride we stopped at was the crocodiles.  John and Gillian were so excited to get on the ride.

Next, we went to the helicopters.  Unfortunately, Justin was too tall for this ride too.  But John and Gillian happily flew above us.

Then we decided to split up.  Gillian and Daddy went to the Elephants and Justin and I went to the Boardwalk Bounce.  Justin was lucky enough to get the whole ride to himself!

John and Justin went to the roller coaster.  Gillian went to the fish.

Our next stop was the Dizzy Dragons.  John and Justin went in one dragon, while Gillian and I went in another dragon.  We were a little hesitant letting Gillian go with the boys.  I didn't want her to get too dizzy.  She was so excited to be on a ride with Mommy.  I started slowly and she kept giggling and saying "We spinning!"

After the Dizzy Dragons, we split up.  The boys went to the bigger roller coasters while Gillian and I stuck with the smaller rides.  The boys went on the Himalaya.

And then the bigger roller coaster Flitzer.

And then the Tilt-A-Whirl.

While the boys were enjoying all the big rides, Gillian and I went on the carousel.  She was excited while we waited in line, but started to cry when I put her on a horse.  She was scared.  But once they rang the bell and the carousel started to move she was so excited.  She giggled and smiled and we ended up riding the carousel two more times after that.

She also got to try out the swings, the boats, convoy and of course no trip to Jenkinson's is complete without riding the motorcycles.

Brielle Day 2013

Yesterday was Brielle Day.  We go every year and meet up with my family.  Check out last year's post: Brielle Day.  This year, we stopped at my parent's house to drop off the kids bikes and then headed over to Brielle.  Brielle Day has a 5k run, lots of craft vendors and food vendors and fire truck rides for the kids.  We met up with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Betty and Justin.  John and Justin walked together and discussed what kind of toys they were looking to buy.  We walked through all the vendors.  John and Justin decided they wanted bow and arrows, and Justin also wanted a shark tooth necklace.  We told the boys that we would go back for their purchases.  After the vendors, we stopped so the kids could play on the playground.  Gillian spent most of the time on the swings.

waiting in line for the fire truck

Our next stop was the fire truck ride.  Aunt Betty and I waited in line with the kids.  We got all the way to the front of the line and just missed the last truck.  So that gave John and Justin time to talk to the fireman that was collecting the money.  John asked him all kinds of questions about being a fireman.  The fireman was awesome, and very patient as he answered all of John's questions and explained some of the equipment on the truck.  Finally it was our turn to go on the fire truck.  John was the first one on and he basically ran up the stairs.  The other fireman commented "He's ready to be a firefighter.  Did you see how fast he went up those stairs?"  The boys were super excited to get moving.  Gillian was a little unsure, but she sat in between Aunt Betty and I like a big girl.

The fire truck went around the block and past the fire station where we got sprayed with water.  We all got soaked, but Gillian was awesome.  She didn't cry at all.  As the fire engine went around the corner, we looked for Grandma, Grandpa and Daddy.  Gillian waved and waved.  When the fire engine stopped, Gillian said "We go again?" We didn't go again, but I'm so happy that she wasn't afraid.

We took the boys back to get their toys.  John and Justin both got a bow and arrow set and Justin got a rubber band gun too.  We had two happy boys and it was time for us to head to Grandma's house.  The kids played outside and rode bikes while we got lunch.  Another fabulous Brielle Day!

First day of First Grade

Today was John's first day of First Grade.  John woke up early and we told him to get dressed.  I had a collared shirt and khaki shorts picked out for John to wear for his first day.  John got dressed and I went to help him find socks and he was wearing a completely different outfit than what I had picked out.  John told Daddy that he felt more comfortable in his outfit.  It's hard to argue with that.

The kids ate breakfast while I packed lunches.  John ate his breakfast fast and was ready to wait for the bus.  But it was too early to go to the bus stop, so every 2 minutes he would ask "Is it time now?"

Finally it was time to go to the bus stop.  John, Gillian, Daddy and I headed to the bus stop.  John was very excited and didn't want to wait.  He paced.  For awhile we played I Spy.  That entertained him.  Gillian got mad, because we didn't ask her to pick something. When we finally let Gillian have a turn, she picked something so obvious.  It was hilarious.  Before we realized it, the bus was arrived.  John didn't hesitate and climbed the stairs and sat in the seat behind the driver.  The bus was barely past our street, and Gillian started to cry.  "Where Johnny going?" She shed a few tears and I gave her a hug.  We walked back home and I explained to her that John was taking the bus to his new school.  She calmed down and I took her to school.  After I dropped off Gillian, I drove past John's new school (I know, I'm a little crazy.).  There were tons of buses and people dropping off kids.  I couldn't see John, but it made me feel better.

MFA lets out at 3:20, so Daddy and I were waiting at the bus stop by 3:40.  And we waited and waited and waited.  HIs bus finally arrived around 4.  The bus pulled up and opened the doors, there was about 5 seconds of no movement, and I heard the bus driver say "Where's John? Oh, there he is! He's coming!"  And there he was.

We asked him about his day.  He said "Not so good for me."  That sounds horrible, but after a million question we were able to get out of him that he had a pretty good day.  He made two friends. One is Trey (they sit next to each other in class) and the other is a boy that he met on the bus.  He had music today and learned that he is going to be in a concert in June.  He doesn't understand why they have to learn poems.  They had lunch in the cafeteria (where most people brought their lunch) and they only got to play outside for like a minute. He said "And we had to work.  You know I don' t like to do work!"  Daddy told him, "No one likes to do work, that's why its called work."

Later at dinner, we heard that some kids got two strikes in music class.  "And you know what?  At three strikes you get a note sent home to your parents!"  Daddy asked him, "Did you get any strikes?"  He said "I didn't bring you home a note!"  He did tell us proudly that he didn't get any strikes, and that he got to sit next to a guitar in music class.  See?  Sounds like a pretty good day to me.

Apple Tree

John told us today, "We need to get an apple. And then get the seeds out of it and then plant the seeds. So we can have an apple tree. Then we can build a treehouse in the apple tree." I asked him what was wrong with the trees I have already. He said "Cause you can't climb them." Daddy said "Why do we need to build a treehouse in the apple tree?" John said "Because then we can go in the treehouse and have a snack!" Well that makes perfect sense.

Dear John: First Grade

Dear John,

Like I told you tonight when I tucked you in, be strong, be brave, be you.  You are an amazing boy.  You are funny, silly, big-hearted and smart.  Listen to your teachers and you will have a great day.  If you see Mommy cry tomorrow, don't be scared.  I know you are ready for this transition, Mommy just can't believe that her little boy is ready for First Grade.  I feel like the past six years have gone by in a blink.  Remember that Gillian, Daddy and I love you super big much and we can't wait to hear all about your first day.

Love,
Mommy

Gillian and Baby

On Tuesday night, I went to check on Gillian and John before I went to bed.  I found Gillian sleeping like this.

Gillian and Baby were both tucked in and snuggly in her bed.

Last night, I went to check on the kids and again I found Gillian and Baby in Gillian's bed.

Notice where Baby got stuck sleeping, at the end of the bed.  When I woke Gillian up this morning, I asked her why Baby was so far away.  Gillian said "Baby hit me! She hit me here (Gillian pointed at the bridge of her nose) and here (Gillian pointed at her top lip)."  I guess Baby was so bad that she had to be moved away from Gillian so she couldn't hurt anyone else.

Meet and Greet

Today we got to take John to his new school (Mahala F. Atchinson Elementary) to meet his first grade teacher. When we arrived the parking lot was full of kids and parents. In the car, John said "I'm scared." Daddy said "Me too." We bravely walked in the main door and found John's classroom on a map. John's classroom was on the other end of the building. Which was a good thing, because we were able to see majority of the school. We got to his classroom and met his teacher, Mrs. Belena, along with a classmate, Maya. John introduced himself. He answered Mrs. Belena's questions. We learned about the daily special classes like art, health and Spanish. John took a little tour of the classroom with the student teacher too. Daddy and I got a big packet of information about the PTA and school lunches and the 100 book challenge. It was basically a big pile of homework for us. John is super excited about his new school.  I think it helps that he knows his teacher now.

At dinner tonight, I was telling John that there may be some different kids at his school. Some that may talk different than us or look different than us. I told him that we need to be nice to all of his new classmates and that we should always ask them to play. He looked at me and said "Why wouldn't I?" And I realized that no matter what I worry about (I worry a lot about him starting first grade), I should not worry about him making friends. He has a big heart and it won't take long for his classmates to see that.

All in a days's work

John starts first grade on Friday. His summer camp program ended last Thursday. Since I am now working at the family car dealership, I decided to bring him to work with me today. We headed to the office early. It's a good thing we did too because Aunt Missy was calling us on our way to let me know there was a problem with the accounting system. We went right upstairs to help Aunt Missy. John immediately went to his desk (we have an extra desk in the office that John uses on his visits) and dropped his book bag. Since I was in the office, Aunt Missy and John headed to over to our service building. It seemed like he was only over there for 15 minutes before Aunt Missy called to let me now he was on his way back. He came into the office, said "Good morning" to the girls and sat down at his desk. He played a few games on his DS until Mimi arrived. Mimi had a few school supplies for him. He was super excited about getting some new colored pencils especially when he needed them sharpened and he got to use the electric pencil sharpener.

Around 11:30, he came over to me and said "I'm really hungry. Can I eat my lunch?" I told he of course. He hesitantly looked at me and the girls and said "I'm not sure they would like it." I told him it was fine. He sat at his desk and ate his lunch. Sometime after lunch he came over to me and asked "Is it time to go home now?" My poor boy was bored. I showed him how to run envelopes through the postage machine. He loved that job, but the envelopes kept getting jammed (which meant more work for mommy). He also saw me stamp a deal when I entered it into the system. He thought this was great. So he watched me and waited until I entered a deal. He got frustrated when it took me longer than two minutes to enter a deal. He gave up and walked away from me. I finally caved in the late afternoon and let him watch cartoons in the break room.

I'm glad I am able to bring John to work with me. But I'm not sure I will be in a big rush to do it again soon. Not sure who is more exhausted John or Mommy'

Gillian's Adventure

Gillian spent Friday night at Uncle T and Aunt Missy's house.  Aunt Missy came to pick her up.  Gillian was ready before Daddy could get her car seat into Aunt Missy's car.  "I go now?"  I buckled her in the car and gave her a kiss.  I tried to get another kiss, but she had enough.  She wanted to go.

Aunt Missy told me that they had to stop at the food store to get something for dinner.  At the food store, Gillian conned Aunt Missy into buying donuts.  She hugged the bag saying "I goin to eat them all!"  Gillian also saw some My Little Pony fruit snacks that she had to have.  Next she told Aunt Missy "I need yogurt."  Missy picked up a package of yogurt, and Gillian told her "We don't need all of them.  Just one!"  Aunt Missy explained to her that you had to buy the whole package and you could buy just one.

Aunt Missy sent me a picture of Gillian eating her ice cream after dinner.  Gillian truly enjoys ice cream and desserts and wants to make sure her whole face gets some too!

In the morning, Uncle T went to check on Gillian.  She was awake in her bed.  Gillian told me "Uncle T wake me up!"  Then she got to watch cartoons and have breakfast with Aunt Missy.

Gillian and Aunt Missy went to the beach after they had breakfast.  Gillian got to make some new friends and play in the sand.  They even saw some dolphins in the water.  Gillian told me "Them jump out of the water!"

When I was tucking Gillian into bed on Saturday night, I asked Gillian if she would like to spend the night at Aunt Missy and Uncle T's house again.  She didn't say anything, she just gave me a big smile and a thumbs up.

The Color Run

Back in March, we signed up John, Daddy and I to run in the Color Run in August.  Well Saturday was the big day.  Since Gillian was not running, we asked Aunt Missy and Uncle T to take her overnight on Friday.  Gillian had her own little adventure with Aunt Missy on Saturday!

We told John all about the race, and he had lots of questions.  "Are there medals? Are there going to be a lot of people there? What kinds of colors?"  Saturday morning around 5 am he woke up and came into our room.  "I had a bad dream.  Can I sleep with you?"  How can you say no to that?  He climbed into our bed.  He snuggled for a little bit, but after awhile all he did was poke Daddy or I and kick us or talk to us.  I think he was just excited about the race.  We got up and got John dressed.  When we put on his shirt, it was longer than his shorts (we had to get an adult XS for him).  Daddy and I looked at the shirt and Daddy said "We could cut it."  I said "I was thinking about pinning it up."  John says "We could tuck it in."  Smarty pants.  We opted for John's plan and tucked in his shirt.

In the car, he kept asking Daddy "Are we there yet?" "I think we are going to be late." We finally pulled into the lot and saw Aunt Betty and her friend Ali. We pinned on our numbers and headed to the starting line. John was not happy about taking pictures before the race. He was very anxious to start.

The Color Run isn't timed and has a rolling start.  After waiting our turn, we were finally at the starting line.  Once they told us to go, John went running.  We weren't expecting him to go so fast, but we were right behind him.  He ran for awhile and then slowed down.  We ended up walking until the first color station.  The first color was pink.  John put on his shades and went thru.

He had the biggest grin when he was done.  He loved it.  We ran and walked thru the rest of the colors: Blue, Yellow and finally Orange.  John had a blast getting colorful, but wasn't so happy about how long the race was.  When I asked him if he would do it again next year, he said "No.  It was tooo long!"  I'm sure we can convince him to do it again.
